QUICK, lads, you've got one day to save yourselves.

In other words, get to the shop and buy the card and flowers and present, otherwise your life might not be worth living. Oh, and get the wine too, obviously.

Now there's obviously nothing wrong with the Valentine's staples - Champagne, Prosecco and Cava, even Bollinger if you've got the cash and it's worth it.

But there are some lovely other wines that could do the romantic trick while also saving some cash which you could either put aside for the next present or stick in the family savings to gain brownie points (or even spend down the pub if you're brave enough).

If it's affordable quality fizz you're after - a cheap date that isn't a cheap date, if you see what I mean - you would do much worse than Belletti Spumante Rosé DOC, available for £5.49 in Aldi's very well-priced selection.

This strawberry-scented sparkling rosé made from an Italian varietal called Raboso is one to have on its own as you toast your mutual love, or to sip down with lovely appetizers as you enjoy a romantic light dinner.

It probably suits the summer months more than a wet and windy February, but so what for the weather - the bargain price alone can warm up hearts.

It doesn't have the branding power of a Prosecco or Asti simply because it doesn't hail from those areas, but that doesn't mean it can't be a match for those sparklers.

(Be warned, mind you, in case tipsiness affects romance unduly, it can go down rather quickly.)

Staying with all things pink, Aldi also have for £5.99 an Exquisite Collection Malbec Rosé, from Argentina, a bronze medal winner in last year's International Wine Challenge.

It's another one for date night (actually, please delete that phrase - "date night" is simply sickly).

Deep in colour and full of character, it also has lush strawberry flavours and is another to help set the mood.

Talking of Aldi, if you want to spread the love over a few weekends, it has three mixed cases available for Valentine’s Day, if you're quick.

Meanwhile, one of the wines on offer for Valentine's (ie until tomorrow) from Sainsbury's is a Tohora Point Sauvignon Blanc, down to £6 from £8.

Now be warned this is a curious one, a wine with the Marmite touch - not in flavours (thankfully) but rather some people love it, some hate it.

It hails from the lauded Marlborough region of New Zealand but isn't like most SBs from there. Crisp, nice hint of gooseberry and lychee fruit, interesting flavours, very drinkable, say some. Too dry, angry fruit, hints of rust, say others.

It could certainly be a talking point over dinner - on which note it'd go with fish, cutting through any saltiness nicely - but if the two of you are particularly precious about your tipple, then any love or hate with this bottle could potentially make or break your relationship.
