BAD Seed Brewery, based in Malton, have been a regular fixture since their opening in late 2013, and deservedly so.

From brewing a range of imaginative collaborations, including their recent Belgian Rose ale with Northern Alchemy, to working with Brass Castle to run the Beertown event in Malton each year, Bad Seed go from strength to strength.

The launch of this week’s beer, a single hop Cascade pale ale, represents the first addition to the brewery’s core range in some time – ordinarily, new bottles are one-off, limited batch affairs.

Pouring crystal clear, a shimmering gold body lies beneath a thin white head of tightly packed bubbles. The aroma is delicate and soft, layering sweet honey and enriched bread with coriander seed, elderflower, and clover.

Bready and medium-sweet, with a bright lemon oil aromatic, full bodied caramel malt meets orange blossom and parma violets to create an even, delicate pale ale. A balanced, rounded bitterness rises towards the finish, nuanced with grapefruit and peach esters, before bitter orange and light fudge close proceedings.
