Best-selling North Yorkshire writer Mike Pannett has published his childhood memoirs, A Likely Tale Lad, released by his new publisher, Dalesman Books.

The novel has hit number one in the UK Amazon charts for “Hot new releases”.

The book was released on October 1, initially as a hardback.

Mike said: “As a young lad, growing up in the North Yorkshire countryside in the late 1960s and early 1970s was a dream come true.

“The sun always seemed to be shining, and the summer holidays lasted forever. They really were the good old days. Given a bottle of pop and a jam sandwich, a lad could go as far as his bike would take him, and the countryside was one big adventure playground peopled by larger – than – life characters and endless opportunities for laughs and larks.”

The book is a delightful compendium of memories that will appeal to anyone, especially those who grew up during those decades.

It is packed with funny anecdotes, illustrations and colour photographs and will keep you entertained from start to end.

It is available from Amazon and will also be available shortly as an eBook.

Mike will be signing copies of the book tomorrow (Thursday) at the library in West Ayton, near Scarborough; on Friday, from 11am to 1pm at Guisborough Book Shop, Guisborough; on Saturday, from 9am at WH Smith, Ripon, from noon to 2pm at WH Smith, Harrogate, from 3.30pm to 5pm at WH Smith, Skipton.

Yorkshire Tea and Grand Central Railways are supporting the book and tour, so, expect to be given a box of tea wherever possible.
