PICKERING library is to host a flagship event for World Book Night.

The library has been chosen to host Yorkshire and Humberside's celebration of World Book Night on Wednesday, April 23.

Sponsored by the Reading Agency, , the event will begin at 6.30pm with Linda Green, bestselling ‘chick lit’ author, reading from her latest novel, talking about her love of books and her inspiration to write.

Linda will also have copies of her book available for signing.

This will be followed by a screening of the blockbuster, ‘About Time’ (certificate 12) starring Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander and directed by Richard Curtis.

The screening, which has been sponsored by The Ryedale Film Society, will include a glass of wine and a chocolate nibble, courtesy of Butterscotch confectioners, to enhance the cinema experience. To complete a perfect evening, each person who attends will receive a free copy of one of this year’s World Book Night titles.

Heather French, from Pickering Library, said: Enjoy a fun evening out with friends where ‘For One Night Only’ Pickering Library becomes an author’s stage, a cinema, a bookshop and a bar café. There’s something for everyone."

Tickets cost £3 or buy three tickets and receive a fourth free. Those attending are also invited to bring along a review of their favourite book or film to add to the display board on the night.
