PART fiction and part biography this is the story of a young boy’s experience of losing his mother at the age of nine and how his overwhelming grief colours his youth and early adulthood.

Being an only child, he proves to be selfish, seeing himself as the only victim in this and makes his father’s life increasingly difficult. He is sent away to school and has a burning ambition to become a writer or journalist, but once he proves to be a small success, his wife makes him realise that the only way of being a man of honest words is to forgive and to come to terms with what has happened.

The trouble is, is he has never really understood what took place that winter morning of his mother’s death. This novel is already an international hit. It is beautifully written with some magical observances and I’m sure will haunt you for a long time to come.
