FORTY years of research has culminated in the publication of a new book looking at the village of Sinnington.

Dixon Allan, who was born and brought up in the area, has provided a fascinating insight to life in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The former history teacher said he had first started collecting old photographs of Sinnington and the project had grown from there.

“The scenes from the past further aroused my curiosity and prompted me to look at documentary evidence too,” he said.

“Each avenue of research tended to raise as many questions as it answered and encouraged me to further areas of study.

“The result is the picture of Sinnington in the 100 years before the Great War.”

Mr Allan has drawn on a wide range of resources, documents, deeds and photographs.

Today the village has been cut in two by the development of the A170 and little can be seen from the road as cars speed past.

Despite the arrival of the railway in 1875, this book shows how Sinnington managed to stay “a small rural community”.
