The tennis ace born in Manacor in Majorca, is to front a campaign to make the Balearic Islands number one for holidaymakers who are interested in events and sports tourism.

Posters which are due to be distributed across Europe in 2010, show the tennis ace Nordic walking through the countryside, lounging on the beach, sailing on yachts, cycling in the most picturesque parts of these refined islands and enjoying a round of golf.

The tennis star, born 3rd June 1986, is famous across Spain and the Balearics due to his impressive tennis career in which he is currently ranked World No.2.

The islands are keen to diversify their product as figures show UK arrivals drop by 12% so far this year.

Managing director of the Balearics Tourist Office, Susanna Sciacovelli said: "It is very important to spread travel across the seasons and we want to be top of mind for golf and meetings so we can increase the number of tourists across the year."

She said that extra funds were being switched into promoting tourism specifically targeting the UK, these will include promotions and campaigns highlighting the islands' easy access from the UK, excellent infrastructure (in terms of golf courses and conference facilities ) and extremely short flight times making cheap holidays in the Balearics ever popular.

The Balearics have suffered badly due to the economic downturn and the poor value of the pound vs the euro.

Many tourists are choosing non-euro destinations such as Turkey, Morocco and Egypt as they are finding they'll get better value for money and a better exchange rate.

With many cheap holidays in the Balearics arising for 2010, now is the time to start looking and get booking! There are some fantastic deals out there, and although you may not get as much for your money when it comes to the exchange rate, you'll get a really cheap deal for your holiday.
