THIRTEEN years “at the helm” have kept Jim Welsman busy at York Musical Theatre Company, but now he has stepped down.

Following Jim’s retirement, the society, which is in its 110th year, has announced a new team.

At its recent annual general meeting, the members paid tribute to Jim for all his efforts.

Artistic director Paul Laidlaw has been elected chairman, with Pat Kay and Derek McMahon continuing in the roles of secretary and treasurer.

The full executive committee also includes Gillian Baldwin, Richard Bainbridge, Mark Hall, Anna Mitchelson, Moira Murphy, Malcolm Poole, Angela Snaddon and Jo Wragg. John Warburton has agreed to continue in his role as president.

At the AGM, the society also awarded life membership to Jenny Cohen, Pat Kay, Jessa Liversidge and Derek McMahon recognising their service over the years.

The society will present Ding Dong Merrily On High at the National Centre for Early Music in York on December 4 and Christmas Crackers at Sheriff Hutton Village Hall on Saturday, November, 24 and at The Black Lion, Thirsk on Sunday, December 2.

Anyone who would like to be involved should phone Pat Kay on 01904 470066 or Moira Murphy on 01347 878117.

New members are welcome to join the company ready for the Christmas shows. YMTC would particularly like any children aged eight or over who would like to take part in Ding Dong Merrily to attend the first rehearsal on Monday, October 15 at New Earswick Primary School.
