THE York Shakespeare Project board has chosen Tom Straszewski to direct this spring’s open-air production of The Merry Wives Of Windsor in Rowntree Park, York.
Tom “brought the house down” when playing Dogberry in YSP’s Much Ado About Nothing last summer and has made his mark in the Lords Of Misrule’s productions in York too.
“The Merry Wives is the perfect play for 2012, with the Olympics, Diamond Jubilee celebrations and York’s own Mystery Plays and 800th anniversary,” says Tom. “It’s a play that celebrates the best and worst of England – international and insular by turns.”
The Merry Wives will run from May 25 to 27 and May 30 to June 5, with a one-off performance on June 10 at The Dell, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s open-air space in Stratford-upon-Avon. Auditions will be held from February 15.
