SUPERSTITION holds that Friday 13th is a day of bad luck.
If 13 people sit down to dinner together, one will die within the year. If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil’s luck. It takes 13 witches to make up a coven. Never change your bed on Friday; it will bring bad dreams… and so on.
Nevertheless, this particular Friday 13th could make you smile, courtesy of An Evening Of Uncomfortable Fun with Bizarre Magick, Luck and Tempting Fate at City Screen tonight.
Doors open at 8pm for a line-up of Bizarre Magick from Roni Razor, The Odd Antics of Salamon and Escapology and Magic from Paul Cooke, who “hopefully will present his latest and most dangerous escape”.
The show’s host, cabaret magician Martin Allan, will be “pushing his luck”.
“The idea of a show on Friday 13th, based around Luck, Fate and the Weird, really appealed to me and this year I decided to take a chance,” he says. “I love taking a risk with new and possibly dangerous ideas, and we may be inviting some of the audience to face their superstitions and tempt fate.”
Tickets cost £10 on 0871 9025726 or online at thebasementyork.co.uk
