MADELEINE O'Reilly will direct York Shakespeare Project's all-female autumn production of Coriolanus.

She is a co-founder and director of Assemble Festival, a performance festival in Hull, and brings considerable experience as a freelance theatre director to her YSP debut.

"I am passionate about making high-quality work that's accessible by all and thrilled to be working with York Shakespeare Project on this exciting production," says Madeleine.

Coriolanus is play number 34 in YSP’s ambitious plan to stage all of Shakepeare’s plays over a 20-year span and will be their second all-female production, following on from director-designer Maggie Smales's Henry V in 2015.

Performances will take place from November 28 to December 1 in what Madeleine promises to be a "special opportunity to see an all-female staging of Shakespeare’s tale of power, politics and manipulation". “Celebrating 100 years of women’s suffrage, this production puts women at the forefront of this classic drama”, she says.

Those interested in taking part should note that the third day of auditions will take place tomorrow (July 29) at Southlands Methodist Church from  2pm to 4.30pm.

All those wishing to audition should prepare a short Shakespeare monologue, approximately one minute in length, and should expect to take part in a workshop audition too.

Interest can be registered urgently by emailing YSP at yorkshakespeareproject@gmail.com.

Among Madeleine's directing credits are: Our Street Our Stage for Assemble Fest; Round ’Ere, a series of taxi plays; Red Noses, ALRA North; Anonymity at 24/7 Festival, Manchester; The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole at Hull Truck Theatre and Shockheaded Peter at the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh.

She also has directed Guinea Pig, Lil, The Gaul, Killer Style, Arid Land and the Anti Panto 24 Hour with Hull Truck's Play, Pie and a Pint programme; Whore and So You Think You Can Write at West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, and Tales Of Metamorphosis and Machinal at the Royal and Derngate, Northampton.
