Show of the Week
My Dad Wrote A Porno, York Barbican, tonight
WHAT would you do if your dad wrote a dirty book? Ignore it? Not Jamie Morton, who instead reads it to the world with his best mates James Cooper and BBC Radio 1 DJ Alice Levine.
Now, the team behind the hit podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno are touring with a stage adaptation. York Barbican plays host to tonight's show, which will include Morton reading a "lost chapter" from his father's "notoriously brilliant" Belinda Blinked saga.
My Dad Wrote A Porno has attracted more than 100 million downloads worldwide, spawning a best-selling book and converting Hollywood megastars Elijah Wood, Michael Sheen and Daisy Ridley into mega-fans. Series four of the podcast will be released later this year and television and film adaptations are being developed.
Morton, Cooper and Levine are following up North American gigs in February and March with 23 British dates in April, May and June. The show's premise revolves around Morton narrating his father’s bit-of-blue book with his two best friends; the content is very tongue in cheek and the loudest laughs arise from the trio calling out the book’s amusing use of vocabulary, strange details and anatomically ludicrous sauciness.
Tickets for tonight's 8pm show are on sale at £31.35 on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarbican.co.uk or on the door from 7.30pm.
