THIS is a very different panto to the three commercial ones in York this year. For a start, when did you last see the story of the girl with the very long hair?
Bishopthorpe Village Hall is so small, the audience is practically on top of the cast, and both joined in with a will.
Dame David Rose was a gloriously over the top Nurse Hannah Hairspray who happily ad-libbed and backchatted with the audience.
He was ably supported by Paul Brook as his unfortunate love interest, The Royal Gofer.
The not so goody goody fairies (all three of them) were star turns and would be familiar to any parent of teenagers, especially the stroppy youngest (Jo Stamp).
Add in Lisa Thornton’s suave nasty Witch Gothel and this was an excellent evening.
