THE funeral of Terry Bounds, who was part of the backstage team at York Theatre Royal for many years, will take place on November 15 at York Crematorium.

Mr Bounds, 72, was associated with the theatre for more than 20 years as part of the stage crew, and then building and creating props and stage sets in the joinery workshop, especially for pantomimes and Studio shows for companies including Tutti Frutti.

Artistic director Damian Cruden said: "After his retirement in 2013, Terry continued to regularly visit us, come to shows, use the café and generally keep up-to-date with everything happening at York Theatre Royal.

"Terry was part of our theatre; like a family, we all rely on each other and we could rely on Terry to make props and furniture that looked beautiful and worked. He also had a wonderfully irreverent attitude that told it like it was, honest as the day is long. A wonderful quality in a man that will be much missed.”

The 10.20am service at York Crematorium will be conducted by the theatre chaplain, the Reverend Allan Hughes. There will be family flowers only at the funeral but if anyone wishes to make a donation in memory of Mr Bounds, the family requests that it should go to the Theatre Royal.

After the funeral, those attending are invited to the De Grey Rooms, adjacent to the theatre, for refreshments.
