PROCTER Goblins are to launch Night Of The Dead, a new ghostly play from "some of the most twisted minds in Yorkshire", this weekend.

Harold and Arthur, from Harold and Arthur's Comedy Horror Podcast, and The Jamheds are collaborating with the York theatre company on this blackly comic Halloween extravaganza from Saturday to Tuesday, staged in a promenade production with spooky lighting and Halloween songs at Bar Farm Antiques, Barmby Moor, near York.

It was there that Procter Goblins presented Grimm Up North's gruesome tales in late-August, and now comes their first Halloween play. "The nature of the show is that it will be different each night, very interactive, though we don't pick on people," says director Ben Rosenfield, who will play assorted roles alongside Kiran Tanner as Harriet, Adam Ekin as Alan Quarterpast, Joel Dean as Rochester and a mysterious fifth cast member.

"It will be promenade theatre but promenade with purpose, with people barricaded into various buildings because the Undead are after us, having been accidentally summoned by Alan Quarterpast holding a ritual to raise the spirits of the dead," says Kiran.

"He tries to summon Witch Peg Fyfe, who apparently was a witch from this area. She ate young men's skin, so they hanged her, but she partially swallowed a spoon to stop her neck breaking, though some knights ran her through with swords anyway."

"And now she's back, with an ending influenced by every classic British horror movie since the 1950s," says Ben. "Our pastiche of a classic comedy horror film will be the only Halloween show to feature cannibalistic actors, an autopsy, Frank Sinatra and Comic Relief hit singles from the early 2000s, like Gareth Gates & The Kumars' cover of Spirit In The Sky."

Night Of The Northern Dead has a recommended minimum entry age of ten. "A lot of the characters are politically incorrect and part of the horror of the show is that you're trapped with these people," says Kiran.

Tickets cost £6 on the door or by phoning Bar Farm Antiques on 01759 302782. Audience members should wear suitable clothing; parking is available on site.
