FRESH from his summer season of musical director duties at Scarborough Spa, Paul Laidlaw returns to York Musical Theatre Company to present Something Wonderful at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, from October 18 to 21.

Devised and directed by Laidlaw, the show explores five musicals by the greatest musical theatre partnership of the 20th century, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, covering their best-loved works, Carousel, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The King & I and The Sound Of Music.

Laidlaw's cast will perform the powerful, captivating and emotive songs of the partners who set in motion the golden age of musicals. "With their romantic melodies and charming lyrics in songs such as Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Getting To Know You, Some Enchanted Evening, Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’, Something Wonderful and many more, Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals continue to wow audiences today, from the West End to Broadway, and this is a chance to enjoy their most enthralling music in one evening," says press officer and cast member Anna Mitchelson.

"Rodgers and Hammerstein created some of the most timeless and best-loved melodies and lyrics ever written," says Laidlaw. "Their songs and shows have been passed down from generation to generation and we can’t wait to bring this fantastic selection to the stage in York.
