MORE tease please! From the producers of Moulin Ouse comes a new show celebrating the art of burlesque at the Great Yorkshire Fringe in York.
York company Coquette presents The Great Yorkshire Tease in its debut performance in The Shed, in Parliament Street, on August 4 when Diva Hollywood, Sarina Del Fuego, Rock Hart, Seedy Frills, Frieda Nipples and Lux Di Lioux will serve up their cabaret of disrobed delights at 8.30pm.
"We love all things burlesque and wanted to show that there’s a wide range of different style of performance," says producer Pandora Amour. "We’ve got the classic showgirls with feathers and glitter but also hilarious comedy, circus skills and some unexpected twists."
Founded by Pandora Amour and Daisy De Lux in 2008, Coquette are York’s only regular producers of burlesque and cabaret entertainment, keeping the tradition in vibrant spirits. "Burlesque began as a form of satire in the 19th century and over the years began to incorporate more bawdy humour and risqué performances," says Pandora. "Today it’s an intimate, hard-to-define style of performance that incorporates elements of striptease, cabaret, dance and variety."
Sophisticated starlet Sarina Del Fuego, from York
This is reflected in the Great Yorkshire Tease line-up. "It features two performers born and bred in York and now performing in burlesque shows across the world," says Pandora. "Sophisticated starlet Sarina Del Fuego is known for her lavish performances that have enraptured global audiences at the Edinburgh, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, the Sydney Opera Bar, Hamburg Burlesque Festival and La Clique.
"The cheekily named Frieda Nipples made her debut at the renowned Frou Frou Club in August last year and has since taken the UK burlesque and cabaret scene by a sassy storm. With an aesthetic style reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour, this sensual performer is one to watch.
"Also appearing will be 'boylesque' star Rock Hart; hula hooper Seedy Frills, quirky entertainer Lux De Lioux and mistress of ceremonies Diva Hollywood. Whatever your cup of tease, there will be something to delight and surprise you."
