NEW Earswick Musicals are to hold “the most extraordinary evening” on Monday at New Earswick Folk Hall, near York, to launch their spring production of Doctor Dolittle.

“Once you have registered your interest, you will be taken on a journey where your imagination will be tested as you hear the extraordinary journey of Doctor Dolittle and his quest to find the fountain of truth,” says chairman Steve Tearle. “You will hear all about the adventure and the unbelievable people you will meet in this amazing show.”

The doctor with the gift to talk to the animals will travel from the small English village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh to the far corners of the world, to the accompaniment of such songs as Talk To The Animals, Something In Your Smile and When I Look In Your Eyes.

“So why not be a part of this unbelievable adventure?” says Steve. “We’re looking for a cast of adults and children that believes you can talk to animals and that animals can talk to you; a cast with some fantastic animal roles, from tap-dancing penguins to the magical Sea Snail. The many ensemble numbers make this a show that involves everyone. Doctor Dolittle is one feel-great musical.”

The 7.30pm launch evening is open to everyone and will provide the chance to meet director Ann McCreadie and musical director Ben Papworth. Doctor Dolittle will be staged at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, from April 26 to 29 at 7.30pm nightly plus a 2.30pm Saturday matinee; tickets are on sale at £18, seniors and students £16, children £12, on 01904 501935 or at josephrowntreetheatre.co.uk
