YORK Musical Theatre Company cast members have dressed the part to experience the world of antiques at the York Antiques Centre in preparation for this month's production of Acorn Antiques, The Musical.

Kathryn Addison, Kelly Derbyshire, Kayleigh Oliver and Jessa Liversidge will play Miss Babs, Miss Berta, Miss Bonnie and Mrs Overall respectively in the late Victoria Wood's all-singing, all-dancing, all-macarooned spectacular at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, from October 18 to 22.

"The company are busy learning Victoria Wood's brilliant score and some rather tricky tap routines in the final period of rehearsals for her musical version of her daft and delightful spoof," says YMTC press officer and actress Anna Mitchelson.

Director Paul Laidlaw is joined by musical director Ben Papworth and choreographer Nic Jenkins in the production team for Wood's story of the lives, loves and macaroon adventures of staff in an antiques shop in the fictional town of Manchesterford. When shop after shop on the high street closes, will Miss Babs and Miss Berta keep the business open? Will Mr Clifford recover from his amnesia and remember who his fiancee is? Most importantly, can Mrs Overall keep hold of her tea tray while she tap dances?

"Originally directed by Sir Trevor Nunn in the West End, where it was nominated for three Olivier Awards including Best New Musical, this all-singing, all-dancing show is hilarious, ridiculous and crammed full of missed cues, fumbled entrances and Marigold gloves," says Anna.

Tickets for the 7.30pm evening shows and 2.30pm Saturday matinee cost £13 upwards from the Joseph Rowntree Theatre box office in Haxby Road, on 01904 501935 or at josephrowntreetheatre.co.uk
