HORRIBLE Histories author Terry Deary will be on hand on Saturday, June 18, for a book signing at the Grand Opera House, York, where two of his stories will be staged next week.

A collection will be taken at the Thursday evening and Saturday performances of Horrible Histories, when all donations will go to #CampaignCanute, a fundraising campaign to help re-imagine Jorvik Viking Centre for the 21st century after it fell victim to the Boxing Day floods. The centre remains closed but aims to re-open by next spring.

Donations to #CampaignCanute will enable Jorvik to incorporate state-of-the-art technology to interpret the latest research into the Vikings and to re-display the Coppergate collection, one of the most important assemblages of Viking artefacts ever discovered within re-designed galleries. Digital access will be enhanced too, making Jorvik accessible to a global audience.

The Horrible Histories tales of Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders will be performed at the Grand Opera House from Tuesday to Saturday, adapted for the stage by director Neal Foster, who says: "I had a hugely exciting time bringing the Groovy Greeks to life in Horrible Histories style and loved shining the spotlight on Celtic, Roman, Saxon and Viking life in Incredible Invaders. Both shows feature special, amazing 3D effects that provide a spectacular way for both children and adults to enter these extraordinary historical periods.”
