INFINITE Riches Acting Company and York Footlights Theatre are collaborating to stage Vincent: A Portrait of van Gogh at the Upstage Centre Theatre, Monkgate, York, later this week.
"Vincent is an unconventional piece of musical theatre that explores the world of Vincent van Gogh and ventures to interpret his artistic highs and declining mental health through music, dance and physical theatre," says writer Olivia Jayne Newton, who will play Johanna van Gogh.
"The theatrical style shifts between the abstract and realism as Vincent experiments with his technique and tries to make sense of his own mind."
The cast for Vincent: A Portrait of Van Gogh
Simon Arm Riding will take the role of Vincent van Gogh; Richard Thirlwall, Theo van Gogh; Sonia Di Lorenzo, Sian; Lee Gemmell, Dr Gachet, Andreas and Adrianus Zuyderland; Keir Brown, Paul Gauguin; Alison Morgan, Kee Vos; Jools Morgan, Paintbrush, and Sylvie Morgan, Jan and Maria.
"We've all seen the paintings. We've all heard the story about the crazed artist who mutilated his own ear. But can anybody really claim to know the man that inspired the legend?," asks Olivia. "'Vincent: A Portrait Of van Gogh will delve into the darkest depths of one of the greatest artistic minds of the 19th century."
Vincent will be performed at 7.30pm on Friday and at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday; tickets are available at ticketsource.co.uk/vincent
