YORK College final-year musical theatre students will perform two children's stories, By The Light Of The Moon and Superville, next month.

Together the pieces will make up this year’s pantomime Oh Mother Goose! (OMG! for short), to which school and youth groups are warmly welcomed to come along, enjoy and be involved in the action.

By The Light Of The Moon depicts a land of earth and sky where twins are bewitched through the power of the sun and the moon. When they undertake a perilous journey to discover their true form and become reunited, their search for family and friendship brings far more than they could ever have imagined.

By contrast, Superville is a forgotten town, where a band of mediocre, miserable and miserly superheroes are striving to hide from a world that would rather forget them. After a small girl persuades her scientist grandfather to rob them of their powers, they find they must combine forces with their arch enemy to confront their fears to regain not only their super abilities but their self-respect too.

Scott Goncalves, formerly of Fulford School, plays superhero Swift in Superville. His character is a parody of every superhero there ever was and surely will be a hit with the children next month.

Scott is soon to audition for drama school to further his musical theatre studies. “My college course has given me a good grounding in all three aspects of performance, singing, dancing and acting, and by the end of this year I hope to feel audition-ready for the big drama schools,” he says.

Fay Barker, formerly of Ryedale School, has worked hard to perfect her sword skills for the Superville role of Sassassin, a cross between Cat Woman and an assassin.

Fay portrays a "good villain" and is looking forward to excited children hissing and booing her: “This piece of theatre is comical, with good combat scenes and I'm loving being part of it," she says. "I’ve enjoyed the range of performances I've been in at York College; I've made some great friends too, and I'd like to go to drama school to study acting next year.”

Oh Mother Goose (OMG!) will be staged at York College on December 2 and 3 at 10am, 1pm and 7pm. Tickets cost £4 for adults, £3 for children or £2 per child for groups (ten or more, with one free ticket for an accompanying adult for each ten children). All tickets are available from the York College box office on 01904 770495.
