THE Deranged Marriage, on tour at the West Yorkshire Playhouse from today, provides a fresh look at Asian wedding tradition with a British twist and welcomes the audience as wedding guests to take their part in the fun, tears, drama and chaos of the big day.

On its tenth anniversary tour, this revamped comedy drama follows nervous couple Sona and Rishi and their families during their extravagant wedding preparations.

Exploring the relationship between tradition and conformity, writer-director Pravesh Kumar asks whether British Asian adults can still observe the ancient tradition of arranged marriages within their modern lives.

Kumar says of his new production, presented by Rifco and Watford Palace Theatre: "It’s not often you get to revisit one of your biggest hits.

"A lot has changed in the last ten years. We have grown as a company and our audience has also grown. It’s very exciting to be presenting a new version to previous and new audiences. As well as a new script, cast and design by Libby Watson, the show will feature creative digital elements to aid the storytelling.”

Andy Kumar, Bollywood personality and host of India’s Got Talent, has choreographed the show and designed the Indian costumes, while Arun Ghosh is the composer and sound designer. Clara Indrani plays Sona; Aaron Virdee, Rishi.

The Deranged Marriage runs from tomorrow until Sunday at 7.30pm nightly plus 2pm, Saturday, and 3pm, Sunday, in the Quarry Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, with a post-show discussion on Thursday. Box office: 0113 213 7700 or wyp.org.uk
