OPERA North's hit 2012 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's charming Broadway musical Carousel is returning to the Leeds Grand Theatre stage from Wednesday May 13 to May 23.

Set in a tight-knit community on the New England coast, Carousel revolves around the ill-fated affair between troubled carousel barker Billy Bigelow and young mill-worker Julie Jordan, played by Keith Higham and Gillene Butterfield respectively. When they fall in love after a chance meeting at the carnival, little do they realise that Billy’s rebellious ways will soon end in tragedy. Fifteen years later, Billy is given one more chance to make things right with Julie and the daughter he never met, but is it too little too late?

Opera North's Carousel is directed by Jo Davies with set and costume design by Olivier Award winner Anthony Ward. The full Broadway score – If I Loved You, June Is Bustin' Out All Over, You'll Never Walk Alone et al – is recreated by more than 40 musicians under conductor James Holmes and a chorus of 30 singers.

Evening performances start at 7pm, complemented by matinees at 2pm on May 14, 16 and 21 and a 4pm show on May 17. Box office: 0844 848 2700 or leedsgrandtheatre.com
