TWO performances in one day, now that’s entertainment from Anton du Beke and Erin Boag.

Their familiar partnership – 19 years and rising – has been restored after last year’s hiatus when New Zealander Erin was pregnant with Ewan and Summer Strallen stepped in to partner Strictly Anton for Ballroom To Broadway.

Summer shone brightly in Anton’s company, but Anton and Erin have an innate understanding that goes beyond mere dance steps to make their nostalgic shows such a light-on-their-feet, quick-on-the-quip delight.

As with Ballroom To Broadway, the suave du Beke and partner were joined by six dancers, conductor Richard Balcombe, the Manchester Concert Orchestra and the elegant, smooth lounge singer Lance Ellington, this time for well-attended performances of That’s Entertainment at 3pm and 7.30pm.

All were still going strong at 10pm, reprising Sing, Sing, Sing/It Don’t Mean A Thing, the energy-sapping closing number of a show full of joyous choreography by Nikki Woollaston to the tunes of Porter, Gershwin, Berlin and Loesser.

Anton and Erin not only danced, they sang too, complemented by humour aplenty, whether in their scruffy attire for We’re A Couple Of Swells, their teasing banter or the candid question-and-answer session from questions dropped in a box by audience members in the interval.

Cheeky charmer Anton imagined dancing with 2014 Strictly partner Judy Murray with dry ice up to her neck, while Erin reflected on how she, not the celebrity chap allotted to her, would take the lead in Strictly routines, contrary to judges’ comments. White tie and tales, Anton & Erin are style with a smile.
