STRICTLY Come Dancing stars Anton du Beke & Erin Boag are reuniting for their 2015 show, That’s Entertainment, after a Summer break.

Erin was unavailable for Anton’s last dancing date in York, as she had the more pressing matter of being pregnant, and so Summer Strallen stepped in for Ballroom To Broadway last March.

Should you be wondering, New Zealander Erin had a boy, Ewan, and hoofer Anton has been invited to be a godparent.

Meanwhile, back together in ballroom tandem this year, Anton and Erin are promising “sensational choreography, sassy tunes and sparkling costumes” in That’s Entertainment, which is at York Barbican for two shows on Saturday. “We’ve been dancing together for just under 20 years, so there’s that familiarity of doing it together, which makes it really comfortable and at ease on stage,” says 48-year-old Anton.

That said, they avoid coasting by stretching themselves through working with others, in this case director and choreographer Nikki Woollaston for That’s Entertainment. “When we’re putting a show together, we don’t tend to do the choreography ourselves because you end up doing what you already do. We want new people to come in and push us on to try new things, so that you’re pushing yourselves all the time,” says Anton.

“To find someone, you look at what they’ve done before, you see their style and how it would work with what you do. Nikki has worked on many shows in the West End and was involved in the opening and closing ceremonies at the London Olympic Games, so she’s very good at putting together numbers and seeing the bigger picture.”

Nikki contributed to Anton and Summer’s Ballroom To Broadway show too. “Nikki came in last year to work on the show because Alan Harding, who normally does that, couldn’t do the full run so we split it with Nikki,” says Anton. “This year Alan couldn’t do any of it, so Nikki’s done the whole show.”

Anton and Erin will be joined in That’s Entertainment by conductor Richard Balcombe, vocalist Lance Ellington, six ensemble dancers and the 25-piece London Concert Orchestra for performances that feature routines danced to That’s Entertainment, True Love, Make ‘Em Laugh, Steppin’ Out With My Baby and There’s No Business Like Show Business.

“The three other dance couples are all West End musical theatre dancers, rather than ballroom dancers, which gives us more variety,” says Anton. “It works really well this way, otherwise it would be too much ballroom-style, though we still have ballroom dancing in there.

“That’s Entertainment is a good title because it’s quite a feast. Erin and I do all the ballroom dances; there’s a foxtrot to All Of Me, sung by Lance, and the tango seems to be going down particularly well. The wonderful big number at the end is Sing, Sing, Sing, which segues into It Don’t Mean A Thing and then back again. It’s a company number, then just us, then it goes back into a company number. It’s fabulous.”

The show also will have a question-and-answer section.

“There’s a box to put questions in that we’ll answer in the second half, which is a lovely connection with the audience and it’s a lot of fun too,” says Anton. “That’s our way of going over the footlights to bring the audience directly into the show.”

So, one last question from the What’s On box, Anton. Is there any news on the Strictly front?

“We’ve not had a conversation about the next series yet, but, yeah, we’ll be back,” he says. “They’ve finished the Strictly tour and we’ve been doing The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief on BBC1 with six everyday heroes put forward by their friends and family, which I’ve been on the judging panel for. Then into Strictly we go later in the year.”
