JOE Pasquale and Todd Carty will lead the cast when Monty Python’s Spamalot is unleashed again on the Grand Opera House, York, from February 16 to 21.

Squeaky-voiced comedian Pasquale will reprise last summer’s West End role as King Arthur while Grange Hill, Tucker’s Luck and EastEnders star Carty will return to York as put-upon Patsy, the coconut-banging part he has played from the very start of this production, both on tour and in the West End run.

Lovingly ripped off from the 1975 comedy film Monty Python And The Holy Grail, Spamalot is a “kind-of new musical” with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production, (well, almost) created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez.

Over its fast-moving two hours, Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and features a bevy of beautiful show girls and witch burnings (now cancelled for health and safety reasons), not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. Among the songs bursting out of Camelot will be He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights Of The Round Table, Find Your Grail and the nation’s favourite comedy song from a 2010 Reader’s Digest poll, Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

“Spamalot is fun,” says Idle. “The new production is funnier, it’s more like a Python show. There are new costumes and new sets and a new director, Christopher Luscombe, so it’s just got a whole different spirit to it.”

Pasquale enthuses: “I loved my time as King Arthur in the West End production; I’m very excited to have been asked to return for thenew UK tour. I’ll be joining a fantastic Spamalot cast and can’t wait to get back on my invisible horse.” as we search the land for The Holy Grail.” Carty said: “I’m dusting down my coconuts as we speak, so that Patsy can go on a new adventure.”
