LESLEY Ann Eden’s latest dance drama, Children Of The Seventh Moon, is “an even bigger community project than ever before” by the ever-audacious and experimental York choreographer and director.

Presented by performing arts students from York College, York City Dance, Driffield School and Brayton High School and all of Lesley’s pupils from her York School of Dance and Drama, the show will be staged at the Grand Opera House, York, on Sunday at 6pm.

Written and choreographed by Lesley, the “choreodrama” was inspired by “all the new and amazing photographs of the moon”. “After discussions with pupils about what it might be like living on the moon, I have devised a tale of how two sisters travel to the moon and, like on Earth, are met by both good and bad forces,” she says.

“The fight between the two forces is an ancient story but our use of new cutting-edge dramatic techniques, using voice vibration to produce eerie sound effects for the moon, is both exciting and ambitious.”

Lesley suggests Sunday’s audience is guaranteed an unusual and thrilling experience as the show gains momentum with all styles and genres of dance. “Look out for a humorous space kitchen dance, performed by York School of Dance and Drama senior students, who wear silver wigs and colanders on their heads to force-feed two astronauts moon goo,” she says.

“The show, with its all-singing and dancing cast, promises something for everyone of all ages and even a sing-along Beatles song, Let It Be.”
