TALL Stories' family show Room On The Broom takes to the air at the Grand Opera House, York, on Monday and Tuesday in the story of a witch, her cat, a scary dragon and a few friendly animals.
This magical musical adaptation of the book by Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson and German illustrator Axel Scheffler promises an adventure in flight aboard a magnificent broom.
The witch and her cat are flying on their broomstick when a storm blows the witch’s hat, bow and wand into the night. They need the help of a daft dog, a beautiful bird and a friendly frog to retrieve her belongings, but this broomstick is not designed to carry five and it snaps in two. When a hungry dragon appears, who will save the poor witch?
The 55-minute show is aimed at children aged three to eight and features puppetry, sing-a-long songs and fun for everyone, under the direction of Olivia Jacobs and creative producer Toby Mitchell, co-founders of Tall Stories.
The cast comprises Yvette Clutterbuck as the Witch; Emma MacLennan, Cat; David Garrud, Dog/Frog; Daniel Foxsmith, Bird/Dragon, and Luke McConnell, understudy. Design is by Morgan Large; puppet design by Yvonne Stone and music and music design by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw of Jollygoodtunes.
