AFTER completing its run at the Sheffield Crucible last weekend, the Sheffield Theatres production of Anything Goes will head out on a national tour.

The Cole Porter musical comedy will visit the Grand Opera House, York, from June 1 to 6 with its all-at-sea story of Billy Crocker discovering that his heart’s desire, debutante heiress Hope Harcourt, is engaged to an English aristocrat, whereupon he stows away aboard the S.S. American to win her back. Aided by a string of eccentric passengers on board the luxurious transatlantic liner, can this web of love be untangled before they reach Southampton?

The cast of 26 will be led by Debbie Kurup as nightclub singer and former evangelist Reno Sweeney, and Matt Rawle as Billy Crocker.

In a show full of sassy heroines, mischievous mob bosses, comedy capers and tap-dancing sailors, they will be joined by former EastEnders soap star Shaun Williamson as Moonface Martin and Kate Anthony as Evangeline Harcourt with Simon Rouse as Elisha Whitney and Zoë Rainey as Hope Harcourt.

Debbie Kurup's last role was as Nicki in the West End hit musical The Bodyguard, a role for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award and her other West End credits include Mimi in Rent and Velma in Chicago. Matt Rawle was nominated for an Olivier Award for Zorro in the West End.

Anything Goes has music and lyrics by Cole Porter, an original book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse and a new book by Timothy Crouse & John Weidman. Among Porter's songs for his humorous tale of romance and hi-jinks on the high seas are I Get A Kick Out Of You, You’re The Top, It’s De-Lovely and Anything Goes.

Originally produced by the Lincoln Center Theatre, New York City, Anything Goes is directed by Sheffield Theatres' artistic director Daniel, designed by Richard Kent and choreographed by Alistair David with musical supervision by Nigel Lilley and musical direction by Tom Brady.

Evans has directed such Sheffield productions as This Is My Family, winner of the UK Theatre Award for Best Musical Production, and The Full Monty, winner of the UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production.
