THE Hundred Years' War, a new piece of theatre based around 100 years of war poetry, will play Selby Town Hall tonight with tickets available on the door from 7.30pm.

Presented by the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, three performers, live and recorded music and images combine to create a heart-wrenching drama to mark the hundredth anniversary year of the beginning of the First World War.

This portrayal of lives under fire brings together 40 poems written by combatants on opposite sides, as well as victims and anguished witnesses from conflicts throughout the last century, from The Great War through the Spanish Civil War, Second World War, Korea, Vietnam, Ireland and the Balkans to the Iraq, Middle East and Afghan conflicts of the 21st century.

The poetry spans1914 to 2013 and takes in the work of Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen, Michael Casey and Brian Turner, among others, and tonight's 8pm show forms part of Northern Accent, a new series of Arts Council-supported literature events that will bring innovative productions to Yorkshire’s Small Venues Network.

Tickets also can be booked in advance on 01757 708449 or at selbytownhall.co.uk
