GREEN Hammerton company Badapple Theatre are to mount an On Your Doorstep tour of The Mice Who Ate Christmas (The Real Silent Night Story!) across Yorkshire from November 29 to December 30.

Billed as a "Christmas comedy for all ages" by Kate Bramley with songs by Jez Lowe, the show is directed by Kate Bramley and Paul Smith, designed by Catherine Dawn and performed by Zoe Land and Mark McLaughlin.

The setting is 1818, when Edna and Wilbur are having trouble joining in with the Christmas spirit because they are two particularly hungry village mice. They find themselves on an extraordinary winter journey as they set sail for Switzerland's Land of Cheese, the mythical place where the streets are paved with cheese, where the rivers run brimful of chocolate.

Sheltering in a village church on Christmas Eve, the hungry mice eat through the church organ bellows by mistake, leaving the kindly young priest without a note of music for Midnight Mass. Edna and Wilbur have to hurry to make amends, and in doing so inspire the writing of a brand new Christmas carol.

This delightfully upbeat Christmas story is based on the legend surrounding the writing of Silent Night. "It's a Christmas carol-comedy for adults to enjoy, even if they don’t have children to bring. And for children too!" says Kate, who advises that the show is best suited to age five and upwards.
