NEW Earswick Musical Society's centenary celebrations will peak with Mack And Mabel at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, from November 12 to 15.

“We're putting everything into this production to make this an extra special show for our members and York audiences to celebrate and share with us our amazing centenary milestone," says Jane Holiday, the society's publicity coordinator.

Society regulars Julie Hannah, Steve Tearle, Perri Barley, Chris Haggard and Steve Padfield will star in the Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart musical that is best known for Tap Your Troubles Away and I Won't Send Roses. The production team will be led by the stalwart duo of director Anne McCreadie and musical director Don Pears.

New Earswick Musical Society was founded in 1914, when its productions were staged in the Folk Hall, New Earswick in the form of play readings, one-act plays and the occasional Gilbert & Sullivan operetta. In 1933, the society boasted as many as 260 members; in 1968, performances were moved to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, where the society continues to present its musicals.

A key part of this year’s anniversary will be the Centenary Celebration Dinner at the Marriott Hotel, Tadcaster Road, York, on November 22.

"We have sent out more than 100 invitations already but wanted to share our night with everyone that wishes to be with us," says Jane. "Tickets are limited, so please act fast if you would like to attend by contacting our ticket line on 07789 260852 and leaving your details. Tickets are £26 per person for a sumptuous three-course meal and of course entertainment.”

Meanwhile, tickets for Mack And Mabel's 7.30pm evening shows and 2.30pm Saturday matinee cost £10 to £15 on 07759 260852 or at newearswickmusicalsociety
