SATIRICAL duo Lip Service are seeking willing members of the Scarborough community to perform live on stage and on film in a new play at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding are regular visitors to the SJT with their often bizarre and always fast and frantically physical send-ups, latterly spoofing Scandi-Noir TV dramas in Inspector Norse and and the Bronte sisters in Withering Looks. Now they are turning their attention to Oscar Wilde’s Dorian Gray. Or, rather, Doreen Gray.

“Doreen Gray has it all, a drive-time radio show, a high ratings lifestyle programme on Even More 4 but, hitting 50, Doreen finds her face no longer fits the bill,” says York actress Maggie.

“At a school reunion she stumbles across a youthful self-portrait and makes a dark and dreadful deal.”

Lip Service require two teams of 20 to 30 members to perform in alternate shows of The Picture Of Doreen Gray at the SJT from November 5 to 8. The opportunity is open to anyone aged 16; no acting experience is necessary.

Workshops will be held from October 28 to 30 and on November 4, from 6-8pm, to rehearse three musical numbers, as well as to develop material that will be filmed for inclusion in each performance.

Anyone interested in signing up to the project is welcome to attend the recruitment evening at The Street in Lower Clarke Street, Scarborough on Tuesday, September 30 from 6pm to 8pm.
