Upstage will present an original adaptation of The Snow Queen, Hans Christian Andersen's story of Gerda setting out to save her childhood friend, Kai, who has been taken captive by the Snow Queen when a shard of broken mirror falls into his eye, turning his heart to ice and making him cold and wicked. Travelling to the Snow Queen's Castle, Gerda meets both good and evil folk, who either want to help or hinder her.

"The story strongly focuses on the struggle between good and evil, saving and sacrifice, and the power of friendship," says Joshua.

"These themes are beautifully laced throughout this show's music and script. As with many of Upstage's performances, the script and the score are unique and bespoke for Upstage, which promises to provide a brand new take on this classical tale and an exhilarating experience for all cast members."

Co-artistic director Matt Harper adds: “Our winter musicals are always such wonderfully creative and enjoyable projects for all involved and this year we're all excited to be returning to what Upstage does best; creating totally original work with the ingenuity of our youth theatre at its heart.

"The Snow Queen promises to be a heart-warming and magical musical masterpiece, providing both entertainment for its audiences and the opportunity for young people to be involved in a stimulating and breathtaking piece."
