THE Stephen Joseph Theatre, in Scarborough, is preparing for a show-stopping night of cabaret with West End performers on August 21.

The Almost Secret Fairly Late Night Cabaret brings together the musical stars of the theatre’s summer repertory productions, The Boy Who Fell Into A Book and Cox & Box – Mrs Bouncer’s Legacy, in a one-night-only fundraiser.

The 9pm event includes an after-show supper provided by Eat Me Café – please note there will be limited availability – and proceeds will go towards the SJT’s Seventh Wave fund to support new writers and talent development.

Ann-Marie Merrick, the theatre's fundraising and development consultant, says: “With a stellar West End cast at the SJT right now, it would be a crying shame to let them get away without giving us a summer season send-off cabaret. The combined cast, crew and musicians of our summer productions will be getting together to delight us with musical entertainment.

“The SJT is rapidly approaching its 60th anniversary next year and this evening will support our Seventh Wave Fund, protecting our legacy and taking us into our seventh decade of innovation. You can be at our one-night-only special cabaret and contribute to our future at the same time. It’s not in the brochure but word will get out quickly, so act fast if you want to be there.”

In the show will be Charlotte Harwood, Paul Ryan and Lara Stubbs, from Cox & Box – Mrs Bouncer’s Legacy, and Katie Birtill, Stephen Matthews, Evelyn Hoskins, Nicolas Colicos, Natasha J Barnes and John Barr, from The Boy Who Fell Into A Book.

John Barr, at present spending his summer playing Gran Wolf, is an accomplished cabaret performer who has taken his one-man show all over the world. On August 21, he will bring all that experience to being the night's compere. "I'm looking forward to performing with some wonderful friends from the cast," he says. "We’ll be singing a mixture of show tunes and standards.”

Tickets cost £15 to £20 for main seating; £35 to include a private after-show supper; £100 for a table seating up to four and including a bottle of wine or £160 with supper and wine. Only five such tables and 50 suppers are available. Bookings can be made on 01723 370541 or at sjt.uk.com
