THE Pop Group may have been the supreme British post-punk pioneers in the late 1970s, but only now are they mounting their first-ever tour.
The discordant Bristol innovators are to play seven autumn dates, among them the Leeds Brudenell Social Club on October 24, in support of the Campaign Against Arms Trade.
“In this age of hidden agendas/ proxies and false flag attacks, now more than ever we must campaign against the arms trade, the most brutal trade,” says frontman Mark Stewart.
The Pop Group have played a handful of festivals since re-forming in 2010 and their October tour will coincide with first wave of reissues of the ferocious guitar music that influenced the likes of Nick Cave and Primal Scream.
A re-mastered version of 1980s We Are Time and a nine-track compilation of rarities and previously unreleased and unheard material, Cabinet Of Curiosities, will be released on October 20.
We Are Time will be performed in its entirety at October’s shows, alongside more of The Pop Group’s polemical punk, free jazz, funk and dub reggae material. Tickets can be booked online at thepopgroup.net
