CHAPTERHOUSE Theatre Company is reviving Laura Turner’s adaptation of Jane Austen Sense & Sensibility for a Summer 2014 tour that visits Helmsley Castle, Helmsley, tomorrow at 7.30pm.

Directed by Rebecca Gadsby, this production of Austen’s warm-witted Regency romance is on the road for the second year in a row with its story of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood making their first forays into the exquisite world of 18th century society.

"Bring a picnic, along with family and friends, and follow the sisters as they find their path and lose their hearts under a beautiful summer sky in their quest to find the perfect balance of sense and sensibility," says Rebecca.

Script writer Laura believes that while the manners might have changed since Austen's time, human nature essentially has not. Sense & Sensibility, more than any other Austen novel, mirrors the personal and moral demands of modern life, she suggests.

“It's always been my favourite of the Jane Austen novels; a story full of splendour but at the heart is a very sentimental story about finding love, true friendship and sisterly affection. For me, that's what makes it so relevant to today, 200 years after it was written," she says.

"The fact that Joanna Trollope has chosen this story for modernisation really shows how much we can still find in Jane Austen’s work that relates to the trials we face in the pursuit of happiness.”

Katy Helps and Anna Simmons play Elinor and Marianne Dashwood respectively in tomorrow's 7.30pm performance.
