BE under no illusion, Derren Brown is definitely coming to York next summer for a full week of shows at the Grand Opera House.

The Purley illusionist, mentalist, trickster, hypnotist, painter, writer and sceptic will be the first solo act ever to play such a run at the Cumberland Street theatre, having done so already at the LeedsGrand Theatre, where he sold out every performance in late March and early April.

Tickets for Derren Brown Live go on sale on Monday at 10am and the theatre's advice is to phone, book online or "get there as soon as possible"as they are likely to sell quickly .

Brown, 43, began his television career in December 2000 with a series of specials called Mind Control and he has since become synonymous with the art of psychological manipulation.

In his TV work, he has acquired notoriety through playing Russian Roulette on live television; convincing middle-managers to commit an armed robbery in the street; leading the nation in a séance; sticking viewers to their sofas; successfully predicting the National Lottery; motivating a shy man to land a packed passenger plane at 30,000 feet; exposing psychic and faith-healing charlatans; and hypnotising a man to "assassinate" Stephen Fry.

He tours Britain every year with his stage show and next year's nationwide travels will begin in March. The exact content of his 2015 performances is yet to be announced, but it will not be suitable for under-12s.

From Monday morning, tickets can be booked on 0844 871 3024, online atgtickets.com/york or in person at the Opera House.
