YORK companies Nightshade Productions and Re-Stage Theatre will take to the streets to perform The Three Musketeers in July and August.

"This stylised promenade performance will combine Nightshade and Re-Stage’s outdoors and site-specific knowledge to present an immersive and exciting experience through the historic streets of York city centre," says Nightshade artistic director Damian Freddi.

Setting off fromThe Golden Fleece Inn, in Pavement, the audience will accompany D’Artagnan on his journey to join the King’s Musketeers and save the honour of the queen of France.

"The show will be an entertaining tour de force suitable for children and adults alike, who can expect a fast paced and comedic interpretation of the swashbuckling epic with thrilling sword duels," says Damian.

"They will follow the adventure through a series of atmospheric locations punctuated by chorus interaction in between scenes to draw them into the intricate world of Alexandre Dumas’s Paris, a city as full of intrigue and romance as it is of laughter and adventure."

The Three Musketeers has been adapted by writer Justin Stathers and edited for the street by Chris Green and the promenade production is produced by Celia Frisby and co-directed by Freddi and Green, who have assembled a cast of 25.
