Katherine Jenkins will headline the popular BBC event Proms in the Park when it returns to Colwyn Bay.

BBC Cymru Wales revealed this morning Katherine Jenkins OBE will take centre stage at Stadiwm ZipWorld on Saturday, September 8.

The multi-platinum mezzo-soprano will join the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales to headline the festival.

Jenkins is a multi-award winning singing sensation. She recently made chart history when her last album, ‘Celebration’ became her 12th UK Classical No.1 album in 12 years.

Her studio albums have sold over eight million copies and have gone platinum around the world.

She has previously headlined the BBC Proms in the Park in Belfast and Glasgow, but this will be the first time she’s headlined the event in her home country, Wales.

Delighted to be headlining the prestigious event, Jenkins said: “BBC Proms in the Park is one of the best nights of the year. I’m always thrilled to be involved but am even more chuffed this time as I get to perform again in Wales!”

BBC Wales director, Rhodri Talfan Davies, said: “The BBC Proms in the Park is an event like no other, a prestigious and ambitious musical event for the whole family.

"Music lovers at the concert in North Wales and those watching at home are in for a special treat as Welsh superstar mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins performs before a home crowd, accompanied by the wonderful BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales. "It’s going to be a wonderful evening and we can’t wait to welcome Katherine to Colwyn Bay.”
