International smash hit Blood Brothers is coming to Rhyl for five nights next month.

The iconic musical, written by award-winning playwright Willy Russell, will be visiting the Pavilion after celebrating 30 years of globetrotting success in 2017.

This epic tale of Liverpool life started as a play, performed at a Liverpool comprehensive school in 1981 before opening at the Liverpool Playhouse 35 years ago in 1983, completing sell out seasons in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Japan.

It ran in London’s West End for 24 years, receiving seven Tony Award nominations and exceeding 10,000 performances, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone.

The tale begins with Mrs Johnstone, a young mother of seven, who is deserted by her husband and takes a job as a housekeeper to make ends meet before discovering she is also expecting twins.

The musical – featuring classic songs A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally-charged hit, Tell Me It’s Not True – follows the twins, the titular blood brothers, and stages the captivating and moving story of the twist of fate leading to their reunion after being separated at birth.

Critically acclaimed actress and singer Lyn Paul returns to the seminal role of Mrs Johnstone, following her first performance back in 1997.

Paul first rose to fame in the early 1970s as a member of the New Seekers, where she was lead vocalist on the 1974 number-one hit, You Won’t Find Another Fool Like Me, and sang with the group in the 1972 when they finished in fifth place with Beg, Steal or Borrow.

She has played Mrs Johnstone on numerous UK tours and in the final West End performances at the Phoenix Theatre in 2012.

Blood Brothers will run at the Pavilion from Monday, March 19 until Saturday, March 24

Ticket prices start at £20 and are available by calling the box office on 01745 330000 or online at rhylpavilion.co.uk.
