The Rolling Stones are set to knock Little Mix from the top of the charts with their first studio album in more than a decade.

The veteran rockers, whose last studio album was A Bigger Bang in 2005, are set to claim number one in the Official Albums Chart with Blue & Lonesome, which was recorded in just three days.

The record takes the band “back to their roots” and their “passion for blues music”.

The last time the group reached the top of the charts with a new studio project was more than 20 years ago – with Voodoo Lounge in 1994.

If the rockers do get to number one, it will be the band’s 12th chart-topping record overall, the Official Charts Company said.

Blue & Lonesome was recorded at British Grove Studios in west London in December last year, near Richmond and the tiny Eel Pie Island where the Stones started out, playing the blues in pubs and clubs.

Last weekend’s number one, Little Mix’s Glory Days, has been pushed to fourth place.

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe’s Together is expected to come in at number two, followed by The Wonder Of You (Elvis Presley) and Olly Murs in fifth place with 24 HRS.

Meanwhile, Clean Bandit’s Rockabye is set to retain its number one position in the Official Singles Chart.
