Former footballer Wayne Bridge has revealed how comedian James Corden’s meddling led to him getting together with his wife, The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford.

Speaking to his fellow contestants on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, the retired athlete, 36, said James took matters into his own hands on a night out and saved the pair’s telephone numbers into each other’s phones.

Wayne said: “We texted a little bit and ended up going for dinner.”

Now the parents of two young sons, the Bridges were married in July 2014.

Remembering his wedding, he admitted: “I was an emotional wreck, I couldn’t stop crying.”

But he was pleased to share the memories with his new friends on the show and said: “Everyone’s getting on so well. We’ve only known each other not that long and it’s mad what this jungle does to you.”

The quickly-formed bond also encouraged TV presenter and mathematician Carol Vorderman to reveal it was her mother who first applied for her role on Countdown on her behalf, 26 years ago.

Joining in the conversation, comedian Joel Dommett revealed he had an unusual mathematical tattoo: pi to 106 places.

He said: “When I was a kid, I memorised it to 106 decimal places,” and added his belief that the world would end if pi was a finite number.

Giving her approval, Carol said: “Joel is very clever and quite geeky. I don’t know anyone else who’s got a tattoo of pi.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues on Wednesday night on ITV at 9pm.
