Piers Morgan branded Jennifer Ellison “ghastly” after accusing her of using the Hillsborough disaster to promote her Britain’s Got Talent act.

Boogie Storm, the Stormtrooper dancing troupe who were trained at the former Brookside actress’s Liverpool dance school, were branded “talentless” by Piers on Good Morning Britain.

Jennifer, 32, defended her crew on Twitter in a long message which accused Piers of taunting them with a copy of The Sun.

“Knowing you were interviewing a group of young Liverpudlians you blatantly paraded a copy of The Sun in their faces at such a very sensitive time,” she wrote.

The pair’s row quickly escalated when Piers accused her of using the Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans lost their life, to gain support for her group, who are in the BGT final.

The Sun has been boycotted by many in Liverpool since 1989 after it printed a headline called “The Truth” in which it wrongly claimed fans pickpocketed the dead and urinated on police.

Piers denied her claim that he had placed the newspaper there on purpose and replied: “Shame on you @Jelliofficial for using the Hillsborough disaster to lie about something I didn’t do on @GMB today.”

Jennifer then hit back at accusations that she had brought up Hillsborough, but Piers accused her of lying.

“How dare u use the Hillsborough tragedy to gain more press you vile man!!!!!! I hope u rot in hell,” she wrote.

Jennifer told the Liverpool Echo that Piers was “goading” the dancers.

She said: “When I go into Good Morning Britain to be interviewed, there’s always every single national newspaper on the table, but on this occasion it was just The Sun, on the table between him and the Stormtroopers.

“I’m sure he was goading them, he knew exactly what he was doing.”

She denied she was using the tragedy for her own advantage, saying: “I don’t need to use a tragedy which personally affected our family and bring those families into this sick man’s world. It’s horrendous for him to suggest that.”

Jennifer’s husband Robbie Tickle lost his 18-year-old cousin in the disaster.

Piers slammed her interview on Twitter, calling her “ghastly” and saying she was running a “shameless PR game”.

Jennifer is yet to respond to Piers’s latest tweet.

Boogie Storm will be taking part in the BGT final on Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV.
