Remember those late nights when your parents had gone to bed when you sneakily flicked the channel to catch the cheeky bits of Eurotrash?

Well, the popular magazine series that ran from 1993 to 2007 is returning to Channel 4 – but only for one night.

When? On June 23, the day of the EU referendum of course.

Channel 4 says presenters Antoine de Caunes and Jean Paul Gaultier will return with a special edition to “remind us of the many, varied and occasionally alarming cultural delights enjoyed by our European cousins”.

The programme will look at European politics, fashion, art, music and sex and “celebrate the passions of those crazy continentals on our doorstep and find out exactly what they have been up in the decade since we last checked up on them”.

Translated from French, that means: “It is with a drum roll in the heart that we are going to broadcast for one evening only, a programme synonymous with 1990s’ television and which for a lot of us was our first lesson in ‘European culture’. (Signed off) Pepe et Popo.”

Tim Carter, chief executive of Twenty Twenty Productions, added: “Eurotrash is the reason most of us work in telly! I’m sure when it comes to the referendum, it will be Eurotrash wot wins it … for which side is anyone’s guess.”
