Dean Gaffney reckons the “Who Killed Lucy?” EastEnders storyline could go on and on. And on.

The former EastEnder spoke fondly of the TV favourite at the Inside Soap Awards at London’s fancy DSTRKT club. He praised “every twist and turn” in the continuing plot, and joked that the storyline could “go on for another five years”.

Gaffney, who returned to Walford as Robbie Jackson for a brief stint last month, added: “Every twist and turn that the writers and Dominic [executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins] put in is for the best of the show.

“So as long as that keeps going, the ‘Who Killed Lucy?’ saga could go on for at least another year.”

Lucy Beale was murdered in April 2014, with viewers only finding out in February 2015 that it was her brother Bobby who killed her.

Max Branning (Jake Wood) was recently wrongfully found guilty of Lucy’s murder before he escaped the dock and discovered the truth about Bobby when he confronted Jane Beale (Laurie Brett). However, the truth is yet to emerge for the rest of the residents of Albert Square.

Meanwhile, Gaffney said there is currently “no scope” for him to return to Walford again as Robbie and it “may never happen”. He also said recent newspaper reports were inaccurate for making him sound “desperate” for a more permanent role on the BBC soap.

“It’s hard because I say something and then the papers pick up on it and make out I’m desperate,” Gaffney said. “I said – and I quote – that I’m sure in the future it would be nice if both parties saw where Robbie was.”

Looks like we’ll have to wait a while longer to find out who dunnit…
