Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly has said broadcaster Jeremy Vine’s six-pack is “better” than Peter Andre’s.

The 46-year-old, who appears on tonight’s edition of Alan Carr Chatty Man alongside Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman, claimed the cast of BBC One’s popular ballroom series will “surprise” viewers.

“Jeremy Vine’s nickname, apparently, is ‘snake charmer’. His hypnotic hip movements might surprise a lot of people. And apparently his six-pack is better than Peter Andre’s. So I’m hearing!” she said.

Bookmakers have already made the English-born Australian singer favourite to win the coveted glitterball, and Tess couldn’t hide her admiration for the way he has approached the competition.

“Peter Andre’s work ethic is incredible,” she revealed. “He is turning up before his partner for training; he has missed his lunch, he is spending an hour walking across the studio on his toes just to get the walk right. He is so committed!”

The pop star and TV personality is definitely easy on the eye, but presenter Claudia appears to be full of admiration for new professional Russian dancer Gleb Savchenko.

“There is one new dancer that I still can’t make eye contact with,” she told Alan. “He is called Gleb and he said hello and I was like, ‘That’s enough from you! You are going to need to pivot and walk away’.”

Genial host Alan touched on the subject of the “Strictly Curse”, so-called due to a host of celebrity contestants splitting from partners either while competing on or following the show.

“That’s what is a shock for our celebrities. Their personal space boundaries are properly compromised,” Tess said. “One minute you are shaking hands hello, and the next minute you are shaking everything else within two millimetres of someone’s face.”

She called ballroom dancing “the most intimate thing you can do with your clothes on”.

Viewers will also see Alan poke fun at Strictly with some fake tan antics, but on the subject of the intense rivalry with ITV talent show The X Factor, both ladies were generous.

Talking about Strictly Come Dancing 2014 winner Caroline Flack, now co-presenter of The X Factor, Tess revealed: “She came to the launch show and she danced. She loved it! We love Caroline.”

Claudia said: “When she won I cried! It was weird. But they are such different shows.”

She added: “I just don’t want to take anything for granted. I don’t want there to be a battle. I want us to be friends.”

Actress and pop star Selena Gomez will be on the sofa and perform her latest single Good For You live in the studio.

She told the 39-year-old how she felt about the people who yelled abuse at her at Miami Airport.

“When it comes to a lot of attention, like at the airport, it can get sort of embarrassing because I just want to go through,” she said.

“They were just being mean and I’m such a people pleaser so it hurts my feelings and I just want to explain my situation. It was fine though I got over it. I want people to know my heart because I freak out!”

Alan Carr is also joined tonight by Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara and Chiwetel Ejiofor to chat about their latest film, The Martian.

Alan Carr Chatty Man airs on Channel 4 at 10pm.
