Lena Dunham and co are getting their own yellow avatars in a Simpsons/Girls crossover.

However, the Girls might not be instantly recognisable as their cartoon characters, as it is difficult to work out which one is Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke or Allison Williams, and Lena’s sketch doesn’t look like her, either – although their animations are not meant to be their sitcom alter egos.

The characters will make their appearance in Springfield when Marge files for divorce from Homer and he gets together with a young chemist called Candace (voiced by Lena), whose friends (Zosia, Jemima and Allison) can’t understand what she sees in him.

“We’re having a Girls reunion, even though Girls is still on the air,” Simpsons producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly. “They’re asking her the question that anybody normally would: ‘Why Homer?’ – fulfilling the role that Patty and Selma have played on the show all these years.”

The episode is due to air this autumn in the US.
