Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have named their daughter Esmeralda Amada Gosling, according to reports.

Gossip website TMZ.com said it had obtained a copy of the birth certificate, confirming the couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on September 12, at the Providence Saint John's Health Centre in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.

Amada was Eva's character's name in the 2007 crime drama We Own The Night, and Esmeralda is the name of the heroine in Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame.

Hitch actress Eva, 40, and Drive actor Ryan, 33, first began dating in 2011 after co-starring as parents in crime drama The Place Beyond The Pines.

The couple have so far not even commented on whether they were expecting a child together.

But Eva's brother Juan Carlos Mendes reportedly told In Touch Weekly magazine: "They're great parents.

"Ryan's going to be a great father. He's just such a down-to-earth, nice guy. You couldn't ask for anything better."
